Current Appeal
Perhaps it was a burst appendix or a car crash that inspired a remarkable group of Oakville residents into action in 1944.
They realized that a critically ill or injured person would never survive the trip to Toronto for medical treatment. So they set about raising enough money to build a new hospital here in our community.
Today, Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) is still dedicated to providing the finest healthcare right here at home for Oakville and Clarkson residents. And it’s still remarkable community members who make this possible – people like you.
There’s simply no compromising when it comes to the best healthcare for those you love. But, many of your hospital’s most important needs can’t be covered by government alone – including vital, life-saving equipment. By partnering with your hospital, you’re ensuring that when serious illness strikes, you and your loved ones can feel confident in the services available to you at OTMH.
Your gift today makes an incredible difference. Or you can choose to make a difference all year long as a member of the Oak Leaf Society – our monthly giving program. Your gift each month will help maintain the excellent level of care we currently deliver to patients.
Priority equipment just can’t wait … and that includes the Urological Imaging System that OTMH currently needs.
This new piece of equipment will be fully compatible with our new electronic network. OTMH, and its two partner hospitals in Halton Healthcare Services, will soon be digitally integrated through a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). This system can transmit diagnostic images instantly across and within the three sites. Unlike old-fashioned X-rays where only one copy was available, digital images can be looked at by various clinicians, referring physicians, and specialists in different locations so they can easily consult.
Linked into PACS, the digital images taken using the new Urological Imaging System will result in quicker and more accurate diagnoses – shortening waiting times and reducing patients’ exposure to radiation.
This sophisticated piece of equipment costs around $450,000 – a price tag that government funding does not cover. That’s a lot of money. But when our community members come together, the results are inspiring.
This year we plan to continue enhancing the care and advancing the technology offered at OTMH to meet the growing demand in Oakville and Clarkson. The Hospital currently serves a population of over 165,000 people, but this is projected to grow by at least 10 per cent by 2010.
We need the help of friends like you to remain at the forefront of care. A vibrant, healthy community starts with remarkable people like you. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mags Shorey
