Quality Care Close to Home
OTMH traces its roots back to 1944, when a group of Oakville residents founded the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Association to raise money to build a new hospital as it became evident that critically ill or injured patients would not survive the trip to Toronto. An outstanding $100,000 was raised; however plans were put on hold until after World War II.
In 1950, OTMH opened its doors with 50 beds, 13 staff and 13 nurses. Then in 1963, a new wing was built which included new operating and recovery rooms, a chapel, new x-ray and obstetrical departments and a state-of-the-art intensive care unit, which was one of the first in Canada. This addition brought the hospitals total to 333 beds.
At present, OTMH is a full service acute care community hospital, which offers a comprehensive range of primary and secondary care services in addition to some tertiary services to the residents of Oakville and Clarkson, serving a rapidly growing population. With a staff of 96 family physicians, 101 specialists and approximately 1,600 employees, OTMH takes pride in its commitment to the well-being of its patients.
Core clinical programs include maternal child care, emergency and ambulatory care, medicine, mental health, surgery, rehabilitation and geriatrics, which are supported by a full array of laboratory and diagnostic services, including an MRI and CT Scanner.
It is through the generous donations of community members that OTMH can continue to provide high quality healthcare services, close to home.
