Community Steps Up and donates over $1 million toward OTMH’s Urgent Appeal

Posted: April 3, 2017
OAKVILLE – April 3, 2017: In early February, the Oakville Hospital Foundation asked the community to “go above and beyond” and donors have been very generous in their response. At March 31st $1,075,000 has been donated toward the $1.5 million urgent equipment appeal for Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.  June and Ian Cockwell took a leadership role in contributing $500,000 to match donations received by March 31st.
Since the opening of the new OTMH, patient volumes have increased dramatically. “The growth we are experiencing today was anticipated, but it’s arrived sooner than expected,” said Denise Hardenne, Halton Healthcare President and CEO. Last November, Halton Healthcare received new funding from the Provincial Government to respond to accelerated growth in patient volumes.  This welcome funding will help towards addressing increasing demand as more seniors need care, more people are visiting the emergency department, more babies are being born and more residents are requiring chronic disease management. While funding increases such as this go some way to responding to rising demand, they are only part of the solution.
Critical equipment related to this increase in demand is not government funded, so community engagement is equally critical. “We are overwhelmed by the enthusiastic support we received for this appeal in just two months, and grateful to June and Ian for inspiring the community to give so generously”, stated Oakville Hospital Foundation CEO Tina Triano. “This funding will go towards purchasing urgently needed equipment such as stretchers, cardiac monitors, and infusion pumps – essential tools our healthcare team needs to provide care to patients in need.”
An additional $425,000 is required to reach the full $1.5 million goal. To contribute to this still urgent appeal, please contact Oakville Hospital Foundation at 905-338-4642 or make an online donation at Naming opportunities are still available in the new OTMH.
